This love poem touches me the most,
Here it goes....
Shall I compare thee to a summer's day,
Thou art more lovely and more temperate,
Rough winds do shake the darling bud of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date,
Sometimes too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimm'd;
And every fair from fair sometimes declines,
By chance or nature's changing course, untrimm'd;
But thy eternal summer shall not fade
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st;
Nor shall Death brag thou wand'rest in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow'st.
So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
So long lives this and this gives life to thee.
This poem touches on the themes of Love,Beauty,Youth,Death,Nature and Immortality.
The persona is deeply in love with his beloved that he brags of her beauty. He compares her beauty to a day in summer. Summer is imperfect as it is hot,short and its beautiful sunrays can be hidden by the clouds. However,the passing of time can cause the beauty of his beloved will fade or lost one day. The persona is aware that the youthfulness of his beloved is affected by time. He also knows that life is not everlasting as everyone will die one day. His beloved cannot escape from death, a natural part of life, so he has immortalized her beauty in his sonnet.
~This poem tells that people who read this sonnet will know about the beauty of his beloved.
